Super soft t-shirt inspired by Boppers locations in New Haven and elsewhere.
With four locations spread across cities in central and western Connecticut, Boppers was the dance club of choice for many festive patrons in the mid-80s to late-90s. In the midst of their CT success, did you know a Boppers was opened in San Francisco too?
The first Boppers opened in the mid-80s in downtown Hartford at Union Place; it was previously Mad Murphy's. Aside from the live oldies music, one of it's iconic details was a red 1956 Buick parked inside the club and right on the dance floor!
Shortly thereafter, a second Boppers was opened in New Haven on Crown Street. This would prove to be their most popular spot. It also came complete with the red Buick, which served as a stage and DJ booth. Additional Boppers opened in Stamford, San Francisco, Waterbury and Danbury.
Boppers featured classic rock and pop music, and hosted one of the best happy hours around. The choreographed dance routines performed by the DJs and dancers, called the "Boppettes" (waitresses), were also a big hit. Sadly, the New Haven location closed after about 10 years in business. By this time (1996), the Hartford and San Francisco locations had already been shuttered, and the others would all close within the next 5 years. While Boppers is now long gone, the memories will live on forever!
