Ames Department Store started in 1958 when Herbert, Irving, and Milton Gilman partnered with Philip Feltman to open Ames Worsted Textile Co. mill in Southbridge, Connecticut. Their goal was to bring discount department stores to small towns and rural areas, and they took off from there! By the late 1980s, they had well over 200 stores, and Ames had acquired Zayre and their nearly 400-store chain. By the late 90s, they had acquired Hills department stores as well, making the Ames brand the fourth largest discount retail chain in America. Ames finally closed its doors in 2002. Fit Tips:
- For men, choose one size up from your regular t-shirt size;
- For ladies, consider ordering the same size as your regular women’s t-shirt size.

Customers say our hoodies run a full size smaller than expected and therefore a full size smaller than their regular unisex/men's size.
For most men we recommend one size up from their regular men's t-shirt size. Here are some examples:
- If you're usually size Medium we recommend ordering our size Large hoodies;
- If you're usually between Medium and Large and prefer a looser fit we recommend ordering our size XL hoodies;
- If you're usually size XL and order size XL, it will likely be too small for you.
For most women we recommend the same size as your regular women's fit size. Here are some examples:
- If you're usually women's fit size Medium we recommend ordering our size Medium hoodies;
- If you're usually between women's fit size Medium and Large and prefer a looser fit we recommend ordering size Large hoodies;
- If you're usually women's size XL and order size Large, it will likely be too small for you.
Our hoodies and sweatshirts are premium tri-blends (50% Polyester, 37% Combed Ring Spun Cotton, 13% Rayon), giving them an ultra-soft feel you'll never want to take off.
